Sunshine and Second Thoughts
Summer reflections on careers, change, and what's next
Summer has always been a season of reflection for me. Perhaps you can relate.
During the summer months, I aim to work a little less, spend more time with family, and make a conscious effort to get outside as much as possible. The longer days create space to step back from the busyness of work and think about what matters most.
This year, one of those reflections has been about the unexpected impact of this newsletter.
Every month, I sit down and write, never quite knowing where those words will land or who might need to hear them. Recently, a past client reminded me just how powerful consistent encouragement can be.
One of my clients from 2018 (đ Hi, Wilson!) has followed this newsletter through its evolution from Career Impressions to Career Accelerator. Last month, he reached out to share some exciting news: after nearly a decade of growth, persistence, learning, and perseverance, he accepted what sounds like a dream role and transitioned to the next level in his career.
In his note to me, he wrote:
âWhat kept me grounded and moving forward, more than you may realize, was your newsletter. Your insights consistently helped me reframe setbacks, stay focused on the bigger picture, and approach my career with intention rather than anxiety.â
He went on to say:
âThank you, Adrienne, for your expertise, your generosity in sharing your knowledge, and for showing up consistently in the careers of people like me who needed it.â
This feedback means a lot. It validates the work I do and helps motivate me to keep going, even when it feels tough.
My clientâs story also proves that career journeys rarely follow a straight line. They are often filled with uncertainty, setbacks, unexpected detours, and moments when progress feels frustratingly slow. Yet growth is happening, even when we canât always see it.
As you move through the summer months, I hope you take time to reflect on your own journey and recognize how far youâve come. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs arrive after years of steady effort.
And thank YOU for being a newsletter readerâŠand for allowing me to be part of your journey each week.
This month, Iâm taking a page out of my opening remarks and keeping the newsletter shorter so I can better enjoy summer. âïž However, there is still some great content to share:
